HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

 

 

  • Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Western Himalayan region and northeast India, as predicted by IMD and valid till 1430 hrs IST of 29th July, 2010. On 30th July, 2010, 38 mm of rain is predicted by IMD for Jalpaiguri, 30 mm for Darjeeling, 37 mm for Coochbehar and 48 mm for N. Dinajpur.

 

  • According to the data provided by Irrigation and Waterways Department, the water level of Fulhar in Maldah was 0.47 m above danger level u/s and 0.77 m above extreme danger level d/s on 26/07/2010. However the water level is going down. Ganga is rising at Manikchakghat and is 1.83 m below danger level.

 

  • The water level is rising in Sankosh although it is 1.50 m below danger level at present. Water level in Rydak I is falling but in Rydak II it is rising and is now 1.80 m below danger level. Water level is rising in Torsha at hashimara and is 0.10 m below danger level. Teesta at Coronation Bridge is rising and is 1.80 m below danger level.

 

  • The rainfall has nearly stopped in Maldah and the water is slowly receding in some places.

 

  • In Jalpaiguri, a narrow temporary structure is being erected with bamboo poles, in the place of the bridge to Hamiltongunj that was washed away. Accessibility is still limited there.

 

  • Fever and Diarrhoea has started in all the four affected blocks in Maldah and Jalpaiguri

 

 

RESPONSE :

 

 

  • Relief response from the GP administration has not been repeated yet.

 

  • L

    SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS :

    ocal volunteers, Panchayat Pradhan and Members and NGO workers are involved in rescue efforts and in controlling the damages.

     

 

  • Nutritional, health and shelter needs of the families left homeless require to be monitored, including supply of bleaching powder (200 k.g. for Falakata Block), Halogen tablets (10,000 for Falakata Block) and Paracetamols (10,000 for Falakata Block) and disinfection of tubewells and wells.
